Bir: The Handing and Taking over ceremony of the Bir Nangchen Tibetan Settlement Officer was held between the Outgoing Settlement Officer, Meri Kyab and the newly appointed Settlement Officer, Samten Choephel. The ceremony was witnessed by Karma Namgyal, Settlement Officer of BTS, representing the Department of Home on 8 July 2026.

During the ceremony, Meri Kyab officially handed over all important office files, assets, office furniture and the staff quarter to Samten Choephel. Afterwards, they visited the Old People’s Home, where they interacted with the elderly residents and the staff.

On 9 July, an official Welcoming Ceremony was held in the presence of the LTA Chairman, BRDL President, members of the Nangchen Society and the staff. This was followed by a public meeting, during which Meri Kyab welcomed the new Settlement Officer and highlighted the major works accomplished during his tenure. Samten Choephel introduced himself and requested the public to extend the same support and cooperation during his tenure. Karma Namgyal and the LTA Chairman also addressed the gathering.

Later, they visited the Tibetan Health Clinic, Sambhota Tibetan School and the Monasteries in Chauntra. They also paid courtesy visits to Pankaj Thakur (Block Development Officer), Manish Chaudhary (Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Joginder Nagar), Rajat Sethi (Tehsildar, Joginder Nagar) and members of the Indo-Tibetan Friendship Society.
