
Dharamshala: On 16 June 2026, at around 1:00 PM, the Chief Justice Commissioner of the Tibetan Supreme Justice Commission, Yeshi Wangmo, arrived at Ladakh Airport. She was welcomed by the Local Tibetan Justice Commissioner, the Chairman and Vice Chairman of the Local Tibetan Assembly, the Chief Representative Officer of Ladakh, and other local dignitaries.
On Wednesday, 17 June, the Chief Justice Commissioner attended, as the chief guest, the inauguration ceremony of the newly constructed office of the Local Tibetan Justice Commission. The event was attended by representatives of the three pillars of democracy at the local level, including the other local dignitaries.
The programme commenced with the lighting of a ceremonial butter lamp by the Chief Justice Commissioner, followed by the formal inauguration of the new office. The Chief Representative Officer of Ladakh, Tashi Dhondup, delivered a brief introduction of the Chief Justice Commissioner.
Local Tibetan Justice Commissioner Pema Sangpo then delivered a welcome address and highlighted the importance of ensuring the long-term sustainability of community institutions. He explained that this vision led to the proposal to construct the office of the Local Tibetan Justice Commission on the upper floor of the Local Tibetan Assembly Hall. Upon receiving the necessary approval, the project was incorporated into the Central Tibetan Administration’s fiscal year 2025–2026 budget. Construction began in April 2025 and was successfully completed by the end of October 2025. He expressed his appreciation and gratitude to all those who contributed to and supported the project.
Following the address, the Chief Justice Commissioner presented tokens of appreciation and ceremonial scarves to individuals and organisations that had contributed to the successful completion of the office construction project.
In her keynote address, the Chief Justice Commissioner noted that the Tibetan settlements in Ladakh differ from other Tibetan settlements in exile due to their well-established local-level democratic system, comprising the three pillars of democracy. She encouraged staff members and local residents to work together to further strengthen this institution.
The event concluded with the Chairman of the Local Tibetan Assembly, Dhondup Tsering, presenting a token of appreciation to the Chief Justice Commissioner. This was followed by a vote of thanks delivered by the Secretary of the Local Tibetan Justice Commission, bringing the inauguration ceremony to a successful conclusion.
Earlier that same day, at 10:30 AM, the Chief Justice Commissioner presided over a meeting with key local leaders and officials. During the meeting, she provided an overview of the Tibetan judicial system, including its structure, functions, responsibilities, and the three principal legal texts governing the Tibetan community. She also responded to questions and addressed concerns raised by participants. Following the meeting, she visited the office of the Local Tibetan Assembly.
From 2:00 PM onwards, the Chief Justice Commissioner visited the Chief Representative Office, the Tibetan Primary Health Centre, the Tibetan Cooperative Societies of Southern and Northern Ladakh, the Local Tibetan Career Guidance Centre, and the two local Men-Tsee-Khang branch clinics.
On the morning of 18 June, at 8:30 AM, the Chief Justice Commissioner toured Shiwatsel Phodrang in Leh and visited the Kagyu Monastery, the Bon Monastery, and the Ruthog Monastery. At 10:30 AM, she was welcomed to the Ladakh Tibetan Children’s Village by the Principal, Tenzin Rabten, along with teachers and students. She subsequently toured the school campus and facilities.
On the morning of 19 June 2026, at 5:30 AM, Chief Justice Commissioner Yeshi Wangmo departed Leh for Delhi. Later that day, she arrived safely at Gaggal Airport and returned to Gangkyi, Dharamshala, in the afternoon.
