New York: Following his successful official engagements in Washington, D.C., Sikyong Penpa Tsering met with members of the Tibetan communities of New York and New Jersey and attended a Ghoton celebration at the Danang Tibetan Cultural School.
Addressing the Tibetan community gathering, Sikyong shared the good news of His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s successful medical treatment. He underscored the importance of unity and collective strength among Tibetans and elaborated on the meaning and two key aspects of the Middle Way Approach, describing the careful strategy being pursued by his Kashag to advance it. He also briefed the audience on the work and priorities of the 16th and 17th Kashags (Cabinets).
On 21 June, Danang Tibetan Cultural School celebrated its fifth founding anniversary, marking the occasion in conjunction with the observance of Ghoton.
Accompanied by Security Kalon Kunga Tashi and Representative Dr Namgyal Choedup, Sikyong attended the event as chief guest.
During the programme, Sikyong presented awards to the school’s two top-performing students. Addressing parents and teachers, he conveyed His Holiness’ teachings on the importance of secular ethics and modern education. Sikyong also stressed the urgent need to preserve and promote Tibetan language and culture in light of policies being implemented by the Chinese government inside Tibet under the banner of “ethnic unity,” which seek to erode Tibetan identity, including its language and script. He encouraged Tibetans to devote even greater efforts to safeguarding and passing on their linguistic and cultural heritage to future generations.
