Bylakuppe: In celebration of the 90th birth anniversary of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, the Bylakuppe 90th Birthday Celebration (Ghoton) Committee organised a large-scale Tsethar (life-release) event on 31 May 2026. The meritorious initiative coincided with the 15th day of Saka Dawa, one of the most sacred and auspicious days in the Tibetan Buddhist calendar.
A total of ₹900,000 was raised for the event through generous contributions from residents of the Lugsam and Delar Tibetan settlements, local monasteries, and a contribution of ₹30,000 from the Department of Religion and Culture of the Central Tibetan Administration.
With these collective funds, the committee purchased and released 500,390 fish into the Kaveri River at the hanging bridge near Kushalnagar. The life-release ceremony was dedicated to prayers for the long life, good health, and continued guidance of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama.
The event was attended by prominent local Tibetan leaders and representatives, including the Settlement Officers of Lugsam and Delar, monastery representatives and coordinators, Chief Camp Leaders, and heads of various local organisations and institutions. Their participation reflected the unity and devotion of the Tibetan community in Bylakuppe as they prepare to commemorate this historic milestone in the life of His Holiness.
The committee expressed gratitude to all donors, volunteers, and participants whose collective efforts made the event a success and contributed to the accumulation of merit on this auspicious occasion.
