Taipei, Taiwan: October 2025: The Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts (TIPA) has successfully concluded its cultural performance tour across Taiwan, held from 27 September to 15 October 2025. The 20 days tour, organised jointly by the Taiwan Ministry of Culture and the Office of Tibet in Taiwan, celebrated the rich artistic traditions of Tibet and the enduring legacy of His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
Led by Director Dhondup Tsering, an 18-member TIPA troupe—including the Artistic Director, teachers, and artists—departed from Dharamshala on 25 September and began their performances in Taipei on 30 September.
The tour kicked off with a press conference at the Taiwan Traditional Theatre Center, where TIPA artists offered a glimpse of Tibetan music and dance traditions. Director Kao Yu Chen from the Taiwan Ministry of Culture Center addressed the gathering, emphasising the cultural and spiritual importance of TIPA’s visit.
Following the press launch, public performances were held on 30 September and 1 October at the same venue, receiving enthusiastic applause from audiences. The troupe continued their tour with performances in Hualien (4 October) and Chiayi (6 October), drawing large crowds that included officials, dignitaries, and local residents inspired by Tibet’s rich cultural expressions.
On 7 October, Tashi Sonam, a long-time friend of the Tibetan community, and his wife warmly hosted a dinner for the TIPA artists—continuing a long tradition of hospitality towards visiting Tibetan delegations.
From 8 to 15 October, the Office of Tibet, Taiwan, held a series of special events marking His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s legacy and the Year of Compassion. The Nanshan Fangsheng Temple in New Taipei City generously offered accommodation and hosted a grand cultural performance on 8 October, attended by nearly 600 Buddhist devotees, including monks and abbots.
TIPA also performed during a Democracy Day celebration organised by the local Tibetan community in Sanxia District on 10 October, followed by a joint concert with the Thousand Purification Music Association of Gaden Shartse Monastery on 11 October at the Guoguang Auditorium in Taipei. The event was graced by Secretary of the Gaden Phodrang Office Yangten Rinpoche, Representative Kalsang Gyaltsen, and an audience of about 1,000 people.
On 12 October, in collaboration with a Buddhist organisation founded by Ani Tenzin Jamcho, a large-scale cultural event was held at the Zhenai Garden Hotel Auditorium in Taichung City. Over 1,000 attendees enjoyed the evening’s program, which featured performances by both TIPA artists and renowned Taiwanese singers and indigenous artists—highlighting a beautiful exchange between Tibetan and Taiwanese cultures.
The troupe also enjoyed a visit to Sun Moon Lake in Nantou County on 13 October, followed by a dinner hosted by Geshe Thupten Norbu and students of Sera Jey Monastery in Taiwan.
On 14 October, the artists paid a courtesy visit to the Office of Tibet, Taiwan, where they offered ceremonial scarves and souvenirs to Representative Kalsang Gyaltsen, Secretary Mingyur Yudon, Accountant Dorjee Palmo, and the staff in appreciation of their support.
The TIPA Taiwan Tour was made possible through the invitation and full financial support of the Taiwan Ministry of Culture – with special thanks to the organiser for its generous hospitality.
Through this successful tour, TIPA strengthened the bonds of friendship between the Tibetan and Taiwanese people, deepened cultural understanding, and shared Tibet’s living heritage of music, dance, and spiritual expression with thousands of appreciative audiences.
