
Kalimpong: In honour of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama’s lifelong commitment to peace, compassion, and Tibetan heritage, the Kalimpong Tibetan Language Preservation Committee hosted a special presentation on His Holiness’ Four Principal Commitments at the Mani Lhakhang Hall on 14 September 2025.
The program began with a mandala offering and prayers for His Holiness’ long life, attended by chief guest Tsetan, Kalimpong Settlement Officer, and special guest Lobsang Tamang of the Indo-Tibet Friendship Society. Following their remarks, local officials and community members offered ceremonial scarves.
Lectures on His Holiness’ Four Principal Commitments were then presented in four languages: Tibetan by Tsultrim Palden, Chairman of the Language Preservation Committee; Hindi by Mr. Mukesh Kumar Thakur; English by scholar Jamphel Kalden; and Nepali by Mr. Yogbir Shakya. Each speaker received a certificate of appreciation for the Year of Compassion from the Kalimpong Settlement Officer Tsetan.
Students of the Language Preservation program also performed cultural items in honour of His Holiness’ birthday, and the event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Tenzin Donsel of the Language Preservation Youth Group.
