Dharamshala: Earlier this morning at Gangchen Kyishong, Sikyong Penpa Tsering inaugurated the new Rest House of the Department of Home, Central Tibetan Administration (CTA).
Following the ribbon-cutting ceremony, Sikyong Penpa Tsering toured the facility to inspect the rooms and later held a brief internal meeting with Home Secretary Palden Dhondup, Finance Secretary Tsering Dhondup, and Additional Secretaries of Department of Home during a ceremonial tea reception held in one of the suite rooms of the Rest House.
During a media interaction after the inauguration, Sikyong stated, “The site of this new building was previously occupied by one of the oldest and most historic structures of the CTA, which originally housed several departments. Proper documentation of that building was thoroughly carried out for archival purposes prior to the initiation of this new project.”
Given the limited availability of land in the Dharamshala area, Sikyong explained that the construction of the new Rest House addresses several longstanding challenges, including the shortage of staff quarters, inadequate accommodation for CTA guests, and the recurring issue of Tibetan Parliament members being dispersed across various guesthouses during annual parliamentary sessions. He further noted that the new residence hall will help facilitate more convenient meetings at Gangchen Kyishong in the future.
