Herbertpur: On 15 August 2025, the Herbertpur Ghoton Committee organised a memorable program at TCV Selakui to jointly celebrate the 79th Independence Day of India and the 90th Birth Anniversary of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, which has been dedicated as the Year of Compassion by the Central Tibetan Administration.
The program began at 4:30 pm with the lighting of a butter lamp by the Chief Guest and Guest of Honour, followed by the singing of the National Anthem. All dignitaries, guests, staff, and students paid tribute to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the nation and expressed deep respect for the enduring friendship between the Indian and Tibetan communities.
In honour of the 90th Birth Anniversary of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, students of TCV Selakui and the Tibetan Private ITI presented cultural performances and a presentation on His Holiness’s four main commitments: the promotion of human values, interfaith harmony, preservation of Tibetan identity, and the revival of ancient Indian knowledge. These themes were emphasised throughout the event.
The Chief Guest, Lhawang, Dapon of the Special Frontier Force, in his address, praised and encouraged the students to remain committed to their education while upholding the principles of harmony and service to society.
The celebration concluded with a vote of thanks, acknowledging the collective efforts of the organisers and participants. Mementoes were presented to the dignitaries, and the program was followed by a formal dinner reception. A photo exhibition was also displayed, showcasing the life and legacy of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and his enduring relationship with Indian leaders.
The combined celebration not only honoured two historic occasions but also emphasised India’s democratic values and strengthened the bond of brotherhood between the Tibetan community and the Indian nation. The guests, staff, and students collectively pledged to embody the spirit of compassion, unity, and resilience in their daily lives.
