Sataun: As part of the Ghoton Programme marking His Holiness the Great 14th Dalai Lama’s Birthday as the Year of Compassion, the Kham Kathok Tibetan Settlement organised a sweets distribution campaign for local dignitaries and the general public. The event celebrated both the Year of Compassion and the 79th anniversary of Indian Independence.
The day began with a short programme held at the Gram Panchayat office in Sataun village. Attendees included Mamta Chauhan and Gulab Singh, the Pradhan and Vice-Pradhan of Sataun village, along with their staff, the Tibetan Settlement Officer, the President of the local Tibetan Assembly, a monastery representative, and members of the Local Ghoton Organising Committee.
In an effort to foster closer ties between the Indian and Tibetan communities in Sataun, members of the Kham Kathok Ghoton Committee and volunteers from the settlement toured the village, distributing ladoos to commemorate both the Year of Compassion and the 79th Indian Independence Day. The main event was held at the local bus stand, where sweets were shared with passersby.
The active participation of the local Indo-Tibetan Friendship Society played a crucial role in communicating the purpose of the programme and raising awareness among the villagers.
Thanks to the efforts of all members of Local Ghoton Organising Committee and volunteers, the event concluded successfully, with more than 1,800 ladoos distributed.
