Poanta: As part of the “Year of Compassion” initiative, a three-day talk session was organised by the Poanta Cholsum Tibetan Settlement across various colleges and institutions in Poanta Sahib from 5 August to 7 August 2025.
The event was presided over by His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama’s Principal Hindi Translator, Shri Kailash Chandra Bauddha, who discussed His Holiness’ Four Noble Commitments and the importance of Social, Emotional, and Ethical Learning (SEE) with students and faculty members.
The three-day program also featured an exhibition entitled “India and Tibet: Ancient Ties and Current Bonds”, organised by the Tibet Museum under the Department of Information and International Relations, which educated students on the historical Indo-Tibet relationship from past to present.
On the first day, Principal Translator Shri Bauddha delivered lectures at The Planet Group of Institutions and the Himachal Institute of Dental Science in Poanta Sahib. The following day, he addressed audiences at the Government Industrial Training Institute, B.K.D. College for Women, and STS Herbertpur.
He explained the Four Principal Commitments of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, which include promoting universal human values, fostering inter-religious harmony, preserving Tibetan culture, protecting the environment, and reviving ancient Indian wisdom. He also discussed the impact of materialistic development on increasing psychological distress and moral decline in society.
He encouraged students to lead lives of compassion, selflessness, and altruism, urging them to integrate His Holiness’ teachings of the Four Principal Commitments into their daily lives. “As a citizen of India, I make every effort to learn Buddhism and follow His Holiness’ advice,” he said.
The event concluded with Poanta Cholsum Settlement Officer Gelek Jamyang presenting heartfelt Ghoton mementos to the representatives and heads of the participating colleges and institutions.
