New Delhi: In celebration of the 90th birth anniversary of His Holiness the Great 14th Dalai Lama, and in alignment with the Central Tibetan Administration’s declaration of the “Year of Compassion,” Tibet Support Groups (TSGs) from across India regionally organised a range of compassionate, spiritual, and socially impactful events. These celebrations were a heartfelt expression of admiration and gratitude for His Holiness and served to promote his enduring messages of non-violence, environmental stewardship, interfaith harmony, and universal compassion.
A wide array of programmes were carried out, including prayer gatherings, spiritual chanting sessions, tree plantation drives, cake-cutting ceremonies, Sankashti program, medical outreach, free food distribution, and public peace marches. One of the notable initiatives was a symbolic tree plantation campaign organised by Akhil Bharat Rachnatmak Samaj, held across 90 locations, symbolising each year of His Holiness’s life. In New Delhi, the “Jai Jagat Karuna Yatra for World Peace” was decided to be inaugurated in the same month, and is set to travel from Rajghat to Jammu & Kashmir, carrying the message of compassion and unity to diverse communities. Medical camps were organised in collaboration with local dental and medical colleges, while humanitarian drives such as free food distribution were conducted even beyond Indian borders, including in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
These diverse activities were undertaken by several committed groups. The India Tibet Friendship Society – Rajasthan Pradesh organised a seminar, school-based tree plantations, and prayer ceremonies in Government Higher Secondary School, Melawas. Bharat Tibbat Metri Manch in Hazaribagh hosted public events and a medical camp. Bharat Tibbat Samvad Manch not only held programs in Andhra Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir but also extended their compassion internationally through food distribution in Tanzania. Bharat Tibbat Sangh in Jammu & Kashmir held prayer sessions and public engagements. Bharat Tibbat Sahyog Movement’s program in Nagpur (Maharashtra), India Tibet Friendship Society’s program in Bihar, and Bharat Tibabt Metri Manch’s program in Hazaribagh (Jharkhand), and Himalaya Parivar in collaboration with Gyan Jyoti Bachelor of Education College organised a Sankashti program. Additionally, in States like Karnataka and Maharashtra, members of Core Group for Tibetan Cause – India, as well as other Tibet Supporters actively attended and supported local events organised by Tibetan communities.
The Core Group for Tibetan Cause – India (CGTC-I), the apex coordinating body of all TSGs in the country, played an important role in coordinating, guiding, and documenting these celebrations. Shri R.K. Khrimey, National Convener of CGTC-I, led a special prayer event in Arunachal Pradesh and issued a press release on the significance of this milestone. Members of CGTC-I also participated in regional celebrations hosted by Tibetan settlements, further reinforcing the strong and respectful ties between Indian civil society and the Tibetan community. This report presents only a selection of the many programs conducted by TSGs across India and internationally. Numerous other events took place throughout the country as part of this collective tribute to His Holiness’s 90th birth anniversary. The activities highlighted here reflect the spirit and strength of solidarity shared by Tibet Support Groups, inspired by His Holiness’s vision for a more compassionate and peaceful world.
