
Mangalore: On 17th July 2025, the four settlement offices in the south organised a talk session entitled “A Day of Reflection on the Four Principal Commitment of His Holiness; its Life and Legacy” at two prestigious institutions—NITTE (Deemed to be University) in the morning and Yenepoya (Deemed to be University) in the afternoon. These four Tibetan settlement offices in south are Luksum Tibetan Settlement Office, Bylakuppe; Delar Tibetan Settlement Office, Bylakuppe; Rabgyaling Tibetan Settlement Office, Hunsur; and Dhondenling Tibetan Settlement Office, Kollegal.
This program brought together university board members, faculty members, students which offered a knowledge exchange centred on compassion, ethical leadership, and harmonious society championed by His Holiness.
The morning session at NITTE (Deemed to be University) commenced with a welcome speech by Prof. Dr. Sabitha Nayak, Principal of the institution followed by a keynote address from Prof. Dr. M. S. Moodithaya, Vice Chancellor of NITTE, whom emphasised on the importance of ethical leadership, social responsibility, and the transformative power of education in fostering compassionate and purposeful individuals.
Tibetan Settlement officer of Hunsur, Norbu Tsering delivered the opening remarks, placing the event within the broader context of the ongoing “Year of Compassion”—a year-long initiative launched by Central Tibetan Administration to honour the spiritual vision and moral guidance of His Holiness. He underscored the importance of embodying compassion in both personal and public life. The highlight of the session was Venerable Geshe Lhakdor, Director of the Library of Tibetan Works and Archives’s (LTWA) insightful lecture that captivated everyone. His talk, titled: “The Four Principal Commitments, Life and Legacy of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama,” outlined His Holiness’s four enduring principal commitments: promotion of basic human values; fostering Inter-religious harmony; preservation of Tibet’s environment, culture, and language; and revival of ancient Indian wisdom.
Afterwards, a 20-minute Q&A session followed, allowing students and faculty to engage with Geshe Lhakdor on topics ranging from ethical living to spiritual resilience in contemporary times. To mark the occasion, TSO Thupten Tsering and Norbu Tsering presented a memento and a curated collection of six bestselling books authored by His Holiness to Prof. Dr. M. S. Moodithaya and Vice Principal of NITTE.
The morning session concluded with a vote of thanks by TSO Thupten Tsering, expressing heartfelt appreciation to the institution for its hospitality and partnership.
In the afternoon, after the formal lecture session at Yenepoya (Deemed to be University), special interactive gathering were held exclusively for Tibetan students. These informal and interactive gatherings were personally requested by the two settlement representative to Geshe Lhakdor to provide a word of advise to Tibetan youth. Geshe Lhakdor reminded students to care for their physical and mental well-being, and to be kind, responsible, and humble individuals. He encouraged everyone to find meaning and purpose in their professional and personal life.
Hence, these session provided a nurturing space for students to reconnect with their cultural roots. They received wisdom rooted in Tibetan values and the teachings of His Holiness. This full-day event served not only as a tribute to the extraordinary life and contributions of His Holiness but also as a platform to promote a compassionate world, harmonious society, purposeful life among the youth and academic communities of both institutions.
