DHARAMSHALA:
Mr Lal Krishna Advani, former deputy prime minister of India, paid a
courtesy call to His Holiness the Dalai Lama during his visit to
Dharamsala today.”We discussed the situation in Tibet and the
attitude of China,” Advani told reporters after the meeting at His
Holiness the Dalai Lama’s residence in Mcleodganj. Advani said
that he had met with His Holiness the Dalai Lama some time back and
“promised him that I will visit Dharamsala to meet him and IPL match
provided this opportunity”. Advani, who was accompanied by
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Kumar Dhumal and his daughter, had
lunch with the Dalai Lama and the meeting lasted over an hour, His
Holiness’ Secretary Chimme Choekyappa said. “Both His Holiness
the Dalai Lama and Advani are friends and have a lot of respect for
each other. Advani had promised to come Dharamsaala to meet him,” he
said. Mr Advani, who arrived here yesterday for a three-day
visit, was welcomed by Kalon Tripa Prof Samdhong Rinpoche and the newly
elected Kalon Tripa Lobsang Sangay at Kangra Airport. Other prominent
dignitaries present at the welcome reception include state chief
minister and cabinet ministers.
