Hyogo Ken: Representative Dr. Arya of the Liaison Office of His Holiness the Dalai Lama visited Konan University in Hyogo Prefecture, near Osaka city, and delivered lectures on the Tibet issue and why Tibet matters on 30 June 2025 to the students of the Hirao School of Management.
Dr. Miki Enoki, Associate Professor, and the students welcomed Representative Arya and thanked him for visiting the university campus to share information on the Tibet issues.
Representative Dr. Arya thanked Dr. Enoki and the Faculty for inviting him and providing the opportunity to speak and interact with the young students. Dr. Arya made a presentation on the theme titled “Tibet: Past, Present, and Future”, where he introduced Tibet, and how Tibet was once a strong military nation, and how with the adoption of Buddhism Tibet took the path of peace and non-violence. He spoke on Tibet’s interaction and relationship with the Tang, Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties of China, Mongolia, and Manchu and how with the fall of the Qing dynasty China, Mongolia, and Tibet declared independence, making it clear that China was only under the direct occupation of Manchu Qing around that time and not the ruling dynasty as claimed by the CCP regime.
He spoke on the illegal nature of the CCP’s invasion of Tibet and that the United Nations and the international community should strongly condemn the CCP leadership and support the Tibetan struggle for freedom and justice. He discussed the Central Tibetan Administration and the vibrant democracy in exile, where Tibetans in exile directly elect their political leadership through elections. He briefed the students on the ten Japanese who visited Tibet in the early 1990s and how they contributed to informing the Japanese about Tibet, Tibetan Buddhism, and the notion that Tibet was an independent nation.
In his second lecture, “Tibetan Culture and Spiritualism”, Dr. Arya talked about Tibetan culture as a culture of compassion and how scholars and scientists view Tibetan culture as an effective means to promote peace, non-violence, and reconciliation in this difficult war-torn world situation. He talked about SEE learning (Social, Emotional, and Ethical) and the purpose of education as espoused by H.H. the Dalai Lama. He urged the students to become good and compassionate persons and understand the interdependent nature of all sentient beings and the environments around them.
The students discussed among themselves, asked questions, and appreciated the concept of SEE learning. They asked about the nature of the conflict between China and Tibet; self-determination and Tibet being an internal matter of China; the Tibetan election system; Tibetans in Japan; Chinese colonial boarding schools; Tibetan language and religion.
To a question about the disintegration of China if the right to self-determination is implemented, Dr. Arya replied that if Yugoslavia in Europe could break up into seven nations as of 2008, there is no reason why the imperial colonist CCP should not break up to free the occupied regions of Tibet, East Turkistan, Southern Mongolia, Manchu, and Hongkong.
Dr. Arya distributed reading materials on Tibet and left books for the library. He thanked the faculty and the students for their time and interest in global issues.
