Berlin: On the morning of 24 June 2025 (CEST), Sikyong Penpa Tsering departed London for Berlin, Germany, to commence his official visit. Upon arrival, he was warmly received at the airport by Representative Thinlay Chukki and UN Advocacy Officer Phuntsok Topgyal from the Tibet Bureau in Geneva, along with Dhondup, President of the Tibetan Association of Germany, and members of the Tibetan community in Berlin.
One of the primary objectives of Sikyong’s visit is to call upon the German government to issue an official statement on the reincarnation of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, reaffirming the Tibetan people’s right to religious freedom and His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s authority to determine the spiritual leadership without external interference.
As part of his engagements, Sikyong met with Michael Brand, Member of the German Bundestag and a long-standing advocate for the Tibetan cause, at the latter’s parliamentary office. During the meeting, Sikyong and his delegation extended their congratulations to MP Brand on his recent appointment as Parliamentary State Secretary to the Federal Minister for Education, Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth under the newly formed German government.
MP Brand reaffirmed his unwavering support for the Tibetan issue and expressed his commitment to strengthening parliamentary advocacy for Tibet both within Germany and across Europe. He also shared his intention to mark the upcoming 90th birthday of His Holiness the Dalai Lama with a series of commemorative activities.
Following the parliamentary engagement, Sikyong participated in a series of media interviews aimed at further amplifying Tibetan voice on the global stage. He spoke with Deutschlandradio, Sven Hauberg of Ippen Media, and Andreas Landwehr at the Tibet Initiative Deutschland, where he addressed key issues such as the question of reincarnation and highlighted the scheduled release of a special video message by His Holiness the Dalai Lama on 2 July 2025.
