
Dharamshala: The highly anticipated finale of the 30th Gyalyum Chenmo Memorial Gold Cup (GCMGC) commenced at 3 pm, 11 June 2025, at Upper TCV football ground, Dharamshala, with the playground brewing with the cheers and lauds of the ardent Tibetans in support of their teams. The deciding match was played between DYSA Mundgod and TDL Bylakuppe.
The significant figure in attendance at the event was the chief guest, Hemraj Bairwa, Deputy Commissioner of Kangra district. In his address, he proposed that GCMGC has evolved and expanded ever since its foundation in 1981, and the inclusion of non-Tibetan clubs in the future tournament, from the district or state level would be a valuable addition. The General Secretary of Ladakh Football Association, Tsering Angmo, was present as the special guest. She emphasised that Tibetans and Ladhaki has shared goal of the longevity of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and she will commit to strengthen the ties of respective communities through the medium of football by allowing prospective participation of Tibetan National Football Team with professional Ladhaki clubs.
The GCMGC is played every year to reinvigorate the memory of the late mother of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama Diki Tsering, whose selfless and dedicated service to the Tibetans is still felt and appreciated by Tibetans around the world. This tournament has become an essential part of Tibetans and their ever-expanding football enthusiasts.
Jangchup Gyaltsen, the executive director of the Tibetan National Sports Association, awarded the guests with souvenirs for embracing the event despite their busy schedules and announced Dhondenling, Kollegal in Karnataka, South India, to be the next host location of the 31st GCMGC Game.
The DYSA Mundgod bagged the official GCMGC trophy by the score of 3:1 against TDL Bylakuppe. A total of 16 teams representing various Tibetan Settlements in India and Nepal partook in this year’s GCMGC.
