DHARAMSHALA: Environment and Development Desk (EDD) of the Department of Information and International Relations continues its series of talks on environment and development issues of Tibet starting from Central School for Tibetan (CST) Darjeeling and Central School for Tibetan Sonada on 26th April 2011.This series of talk started last year at Tibetan Children’s Village School Ladakh in commemoration of His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s 75th birth anniversary. Two researchers of EDD Ms Chokyi and Mr Jigme Norbu conducted the third leg of Tibet’s environment awareness program that includes talks on the latest information on climate change in Tibet, relocation of nomads and wildlife conservation. A film ‘Melt down in Tibet’ was also presented to the school children.The researchers gave talk to the students of CST Darjeeling on 26th morning and followed the same talk to CST Sonada in afternoon.CST Darjeeling has an environmental club that engages in the plantation of trees in the school campus and participated in the CBSE zone exhibition where in they exhibited the current issues of global warming. EDD staff also made students from primary school of Sambhota Tibetan School (STS) Pokhriabong familiar with the current environmental issues in Tibet. The talks concluded with good responses from both the students and teachers.The researchers will give talks to CST Kalimpong on 29 April, to STS Gangtok on 30 April and to CST Ravangla on 2 May. The researchers will talk to the school children on Tibet’s crucial environment issues like climate change, damming Tibetan rivers, relocation of pastoral nomads in Tibet, wildlife conservation and natural resource extraction.Report filed by Ms Chokyi and Mr Jigme Norbu of EDD.More photos:
