DHARAMSHALA: More than a hundred monks from the Kirti Monastery on Tuesday, 26 April 2011, set out on a peace march from Dharamsala to Delhi (483 Km by road) to express their support to the fellow monks in Kirti Monastery in Amdo Province of Tibet.
The Chinese military forces have sealed the monastery and took away 300 monks from the monastery on 21 April. This serious situation occured following a strong protest by a young monk who set himself on fire in protest against the misrule of the PRC government.
Referring to the crackdown, Kalon Tripa Prof. Samdhong Rinpoche who addressed the peace marchers said, this is a very ‘critical moment’ and it may lead to a complete destruction of Tibetan race, culture and its unique identity. He urged the international community and peace loving people to persuade the People’s Republic of China to understand the ground reality and give at least the basic human rights to the Tibetans.
Kalon Tripa speaking in Tibetan said, our peace march should be through genuine peaceful manner and we should be compassionate to all the sentient beings and to the forces who mistreat Tibetans in Tibet.
This peace march began with a mass gathering at the Tsuglag khang the main courtyard in Mcleod Ganj, attended by the Speaker, Deputy Speaker, members of parliament, Kalon Tripa Prof. Samdhong Rinpoche, Kirti Rinpoche and many Tibetans.
Kirti Jeypa Monastery in Dharamsala and Sukhe Kirti Monastery in Darjeeling have organised this all monk peace march calling the international community to insist to the Chinese government to immediately stop the ongoing brutal crackdown in Ngaba.
The organisers also want China to immediately release all political prisoners in Tibet, including the Panchen Lama, recently detained Tibetans form Ngaba, Lobsang Tsundrue and Lobsang Dhargay of Kirti monastery.
The organisers also want to respect human rights, freedom of expression and freedom of religion to pursue spiritual studies.
A statement given by the Kirti monastery said, “… The current security campaign by the Chinese government is aimed to annihilate the very existence of the Kirti monastery, which is a great loss not only to the monks of the monastery, but to all the Tibetans and Buddhist community worldwide”.
