DHARAMSHALA:
His Holiness the Dalai Lama was accorded a warm welcome upon his return
to Dharamsala today after concluding a very successful visit to three
countries in Europe from 13 – 18 April.The Speaker of the
Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile and Kalon Tripa received His Holiness at
the airport in Gaggal near Dharamsala this afternoon. Hundreds of
Tibetans and well-wishers with traditional scarves (Khatag), incense
sticks and bouquets lined on the road sides to greet His Holiness and
his retinue.His Holiness visited Ireland, Sweden and Denmark to
give a series of public talks on the promotion of human values and
world peace. His Holiness met schoolchildren, members of Tibet support
groups, journalists and religious leaders during the visit. His
Holiness participated in an event titled Meet the Dalai Lama organised
by the Swedish organisation Individuell Människöhjälp (IM) in
Stockholm. In the mid sixties IM-SOIR started operations in India to
assist the stream of refugees from Tibet with the Fennebergs as
leaders. Today SOIR-IM is cooperating with the Central Tibetan
Administration within the fields of education, health and environment.During
his visit to Copenhagen in Denmark on 18 April, His Holiness met with
members of the Danish Parliament. His Holiness briefed the
parliamentarians about his efforts to further democratise the Tibetan
governance system.On the
same day His Holiness met with the Tibetan community in Denmark and a
group of Tibetans that came from Norway. In his address, His Holiness
told the Tibetans to preserve and enhance the Tibetan people’s identity
and moral standard. He also told them that they have the bounden duty
to inculcate their children with a sound knowledge of Tibetan culture
