Kathmandu: As this year marks the 90th anniversary of His Holiness the Dalai Lama according to the Tibetan calendar, in honor of this occasion, the Jawalakhel Samdupling Tibetan settlement in Kathmandu distributed food, water, and clothes to approximately 600 flood victims. This charitable act comes in response to recent floods and landslides that have devastated parts of Nepal, resulting in 239 confirmed deaths, 19 people missing, and 177 injured, according to local reports.
The relief project was carried out on a Wednesday, considered an auspicious day associated with His Holiness, which coincided with a new moon day. The merit earned from this act of kindness is dedicated to the good health and longevity of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. This event is one of several virtuous activities planned throughout the year, following guidelines received from the Gaden Phodrang (the Dalai Lama’s personal office) via the Department of Home, Central Tibetan Administration (CTA).
