Thank You, United States of America, for Enacting the ‘Promoting a Resolution to the Tibet Chinese Dispute Act’
Dharamshala: On Wednesday, 17 July 2024, the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) held a ceremony in the Sikyong Hall to commemorate and show gratitude to United States President Joe Biden for signing the Resolve Tibet Act, adopted as the official U.S. policy on 12 July 2024. Around 3:30 in the afternoon, the Speaker of the Tibetan Parliament Khenpo Sonam Tenphel, Officiating Sikyong Dolma Gyari, Standing Committee of Tibetan Parliament-Exile, Secretaries of different departments and the staff of the CTA were present at the commemoration.
Cabinet Secretary Tsegyal Chukya Dranyi addressed the gathering, emphasising the importance of celebrating and expressing gratitude to all involved in enacting this law at this pivotal moment. Following his remarks, DIIR Secretary Karma Choeying read the drafted Tibet Resolve Act, highlighting its primary objective to rebut the Chinese government’s misrepresentation of Tibetan history and affirm the stance of the United States government against it.
Officiating Sikyong Dolma Gyari expressed deep satisfaction regarding the passage of this significant legislation. She underscored the Tibetan community’s joy over enacting the law and emphasised the enduring commitment of the United States to the situation in Tibet. She also noted that during His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s visit to the United States, the American President officially invited him to visit the White House. Furthermore, she highlighted the pressing circumstances in Tibet by referencing several timely resolutions in Congress. Additionally, she pointed out that many Tibetan refugees receive equivalent rights to American citizens through the U.S. Resettlement Program.
Further more she sincerly thanked for US government for enacting 2002 the Tibet Policy Act of the United States, the U.S. government was directed to enact policies that bolster the autonomy of the Tibetan people. This legislation underscores the United States’ dedication to advancing the Tibetan people’s aspirations for self-governance and human rights.
Lastly, she extended gratitude to everyone who worked tirelessly over the past few years to pass this bill into law.
