
Dharamshala: The Public Service Commission (PSC) of the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) conducted a three-day seminar to develop a Tibetan language syllabus for the CTA staff at the College of Higher Tibetan Studies, Sarah from 24 to 26 January 2024.
The inaugural ceremony was attended by Public Service Commissioner Wangdu Tsering Pesur, the Secretary of the PSC Tsering Yangkey, and the PSC Programme Coordinator Sonam Choezom. The seminar saw the participation of Tibetan experts who are actively involved in teaching the Tibetan language, along with some former and present civil servants of the CTA.
The seminar began with the customary lighting of a butter lamp by the Public Service Commissioner. It was then followed by the recitation of auspicious prayer by a group of monks from the College of Higher Tibetan Studies, Sarah. Secretary Tsering Yangkey cordially welcomed the experts and spoke briefly about the importance of the seminar in her address. She earnestly urged the scholars for their active participation in the seminar.
Furthermore, Public Service Commissioner Wangdu Tsering Pesur addressed the gathering about the roles and responsibilities of the PSC and spoke about the written and spoken languages of the world while highlighting the significance of the Tibetan language. He reminded the audience of His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s advice and to properly adhere to his aspirations.
The opening ceremony was successfully concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by the programme coordinator, Sonam Choezom.
This three-day seminar to develop a Tibetan language syllabus for CTA staff has been implemented under the CTA Capacity Building and Sustainability Initiative (CTA-CBSI) programme, which is supported by USAID through the National Democratic Institute and Social and Resource Development Fund (SARD).
