
DHARAMSHALA: Sikyong Dr. Lobsang Sangay, the democratically elected political leader of the Tibetan people, arrived in Phunstokling Tibetan settlement on 3 April, located in the eastern Indian state of Odisha.
Sikyong Dr. Lobsang Sangay was welcomed on his arrival by the Tibetan Settlement officer, representatives of the local Tibetan assembly, leaders of various Tibetan organisations and members of the public.
Sikyong’s engagements in Odisha include a public talk to the members of the Tibetan community, visits to the Tibetan schools and interactive sessions with the students, and a speaking engagement at KIIT University to over 25,000 students in Bhubaneshwar, the capital city of the state.
KIIT University has earlier signed an MoU with the Department of Education of the Central Tibetan Administration in July 2014. The MoU was signed between Sikyong Dr. Lobsang Sangay who was also the Education Kalon then and Dr. Achyuta Samanta, the founder of the University. The Memorandum of Understanding was intended to promote and develop Indo-Tibet relationship and seek reserve seats for Students of Tibetan origin across the globe in various courses offered by the University.
