
LONDON: Mr Tashi Phuntsok, the Secretary for Information of the Department of Information and International Relations met Mr Fiabian Hamilton, Member of Parliament from the Labour Party at the Office of Tibet on Monday, 3rd November.
During their meeting, Secretary Tashi Phuntsok reiterated the Middle Way Approach (MWA) as a pragmatic approach to ensure a lasting and meaningful solution for the issue of Tibet and expressed the Central Tibetan Administration’s firm commitment to resolve the issue of Tibet through dialogue. He requested Mr. Hamilton to find ways of raising the issue of Tibet in the British parliament.
In the afternoon, the Secretary met the board members of UK Tibet Support Groups at the Office of Tibet. He explained to them the essential priorities of the Tibetan Administration to revitalise youth outreach, to create more awareness of the Middle Way Policy and to expand outreach to the Chinese community.
DIIR Secretary also met Lord David Steel at the Millbank House, the Lord’s office at Westminster. Mr. Tashi Phuntsok expressed his gratitude to Lord Steel for his long standing support for Tibet and the Tibetan people at this very difficult time. Lord David Steel expressed his concerns and promised to raise the issue of Tibet within his capacity.
Secretary Tashi Phuntsok also met Dr. Dibyesh Annand, associate professor and the Head of the Department & Reader in International Relations, Department of Politics, University of Westminster. They discussed promotionof Tibetan issues within the university.
He also gave a 30-minute interview to Ms. Temtsel Hao of the BBC Chinese Section, on the situation inside Tibet and the Central Tibetan Administration’s Middle Way Approach to resolve the Tibet issue.
Other personalities the Secretary met during his visit to London include Sogyal Rinpoche at Rigpa Centre, the council members of the UK Tibetan Community, etc..
