Tibet Exhibition at Hunsur Attracts Over 1,500 Visitors [Monday, 30 August 2010, 2:47 p.m.]

The Tibet Museum of Department of Information and International
Relations organised (DIIR) its second leg of traveling photo exhibition
in Hunsur Rabgyeling Tibetan Settlement from 28 to 29 August 2010.
The exhibition was inaugurated by venerable Kyabje Lama Oozin, Head
Lama of Gyumed Monastery, who was accompanied by settlement officer
Jampa Phuntsok. More than 300 settlement residents attended the opening
ceremony at the community hall. Before the inauguration,
museum officials welcomed the guests and visitors, and briefed them
about the purpose of holding the photo exhibition and spoke on the role
of Tibet Museum. More than 1,500 local Tibetan residents
including monks of the Gyumed and Zongkar Choede Monastery, students
and teachers of Central School for Tibetan and large number of lay
people thronged to visit the photo exhibition. A total of 60 panels
were displayed, portraying the life of Tibetans in exile for past 50
years and also past and present situation inside Tibet. The exhibition
was highly appreciated by local populace and was requested to organise
similar kind of exhibition in future at the settlement.

Tibet related documentary films “What Remain of Us”, “Uprising in Tibet 2008”, “Lhamo Tso: Behind the Sea” and “Leaving Fear Behind” were screened at Gyumed Monastery, Zongkar Choede Monastery and at the community hall.
The exhibition aims to create awareness among Tibetan populace in exile
about efforts made in the early stages of exile under the leadership of
His Holiness the Dalai Lama in establishing settlements, schools,
monasteries, hospitals etc. The next photo exhibition is
scheduled at Sera Lachi in Bylakuppe from 31 August to 2 September
2010, to coincide with His Holiness visit at the settlement and the
grand commemoration of 50th founding anniversary of Tibetan Democracy.
