PARIS: Adding to the list of over sixty French municipalities, the municipality of Marq en Yvlines yesterday adopted Drikung in Meldrogonkar district of Tibet in a formal ceremony at the town-hall.
Marcq is a small village in the Yvelines Department of France. It follows over sixty other municipalities to join the campaign of adoption launched in April 2010 by the French Tibet Support Group, France-Tibet.
Tibet Normandie and Etre avec le Tibet, two local TSG partners had coordinated the formal adoption of this campaign.
The objective of this campaign of adoption is to safeguard and preserve the unique Tibetan culture and identity as represented by the name of places, which is undergoing huge sinicization in Tibet.
The formal ceremony was attended by the Mayor of Marcq, his colleagues in the municipal council and also a Senator from the Yvelines constituency.
Marcq is the 65th municipality across Europe, vast majority of them in France, to participate in this adoption campaign.
