A Tibetan Settlement officer in Nepal honoured for exemplary community service

Dharamshala: Chorjor Tibetan Settlement Officer Mr Tsering Dhondup
Shongnub was honoured by an NGO Jagriti Samaj in Kathmandu in
recognition of his outstanding service to the Tibetan community in
Nepal. Chojor Tibetan settlement consists of Boudha and Jorpatti region
of Kathmandu.
The award was presented by the chief guest, Minendra Rijal, Minister
of Culture of the government of Nepal, on the occasion on 10 July 2010.
Seventeen other individuals in the fields of environment, human rights,
business, banking, planning, medical care, tourism, charity work,
responsible persons in communities and a former district commissioner
were honoured on the day.
Mr Tsering Dhondup Shongnub in his address on the occasion thanked
Jagriti Samaj Nepal for honouring him for his service to the community
by saying, “ I am happy for being honoured as Tibetan refugee in the
service of community”. He said the award was his fifth in his 21 years
of service to the community in Nepal.
“I, on behalf of exile Tibetans and the Central Tibetan Administration,
say thank you to the people and government of Nepal for providing us
home for the last 50 years. I am proud of the fact that Tibetans live
in harmony with the Nepali people.” the settlement officer added.
He spoke about the problems faced by Tibetan refugees in Nepal in terms
of acquiring registration certificates by the new arrivals from Tibet
and many other Tibetans residing in Nepal. He also talked about many
problems faced by Tibetans because of unemployment and problems faced
by Tibetans in travelling in Nepal. He called for the people to request
the Nepali government to support Tibetans to overcome these
difficulties.
