Dharamshala: Sikyong Penpa Tsering of the Central Tibetan Administration today congratulated Olaf Scholz, the new Chancellor of Germany. Olaf Scholz was elected and sworn-in as Chancellor by the German Bundestag on Wednesday, 8 December.
In his congratulatory letter, Sikyong wrote: “It is with great honour that I on behalf of the Central Tibetan Administration and the Tibetan people offer our heartiest congratulations to you on shouldering the responsibility as the Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany.”
“The plight of the Tibetan people has always found its voice in the German Parliament. As early as 1987, the then West German Parliament passed a resolution on the human rights violation in Tibet. Earlier this year, Germany was among the nations that raised their concerns over the severe restrictions imposed by China in Tibet at the UN Human Rights Council.”
“Tibetan people’s struggle to resolve the Sino-Tibet conflict through the Middle Way Approach continue to receive great support from the people of Germany through various Tibet support groups. We remain grateful to Germany and its people.”
“I am confident that your decades of expertise and pragmatic leadership would strengthen Germany’s role in the world. I also hope that human rights and the democratic values that Germany stands for will feature strongly in your policy,” Sikyong said.
