DHARAMSHALA: Mr Chonpel Tsering, a senior official at the Office of Tibet, London, has been appointed as the new Representative for the Office of Tibet, London. He will take charge from 1 September 2014, a release from the Kashag secretariat said. He will take over from Representative Mr Thubten Samdup.
Chonpel Tsering was born in India in 1972 and came to the UK in February 1982 as one of eight students from the Tibetan Children’s Village (TCV) in Dharamsala, India, selected to study at the Pestalozzi Village. He graduated with a B. Eng. (Hons) Degree in Civil Engineering in 1996.
He worked as the Secretary/Press & Information Officer at the Office of Tibet, London, from 2008 to 2013. He re-joined the Office of Tibet, London, as a Special Projects Coordinator at the end of January 2014 and has been working in that capacity since.
Prior to joining the Office of Tibet, Chonpel worked as the International Coordinator for the then International Tibet Support Network from 2005 to 2008 and Tibet Information Network (TIN) from 1997 – 1999. He also served as the General Secretary of the Tibetan community in Britain from 1999 to 2004.
