DHARAMSHALA: The Secretary for Information of the Department of Information and International Relations, Mr Tashi Phuntsok, visited the Tibetan communities in Tashi Jong, Bir and Chauntara to raise awareness on the Middle Way Approach and the Central Tibetan Administration’s (CTA) initiative to mark this year as the year of His Holiness the Great 14th Dalai Lama.
During a series of talks at the settlements from 4-8 August, Secretary Tashi Phuntsok spoke on the CTA’s initiative to dedicate 2014 as the year of His Holiness the Dalai Lama in honour of his remarkable contribution to the promotion of human values, religious harmony and the cause of Tibet. He said the Tibetan people should be proud of having His Holiness the Dalai Lama as its leader, who is considered as an outstanding leader of the 20th and 21st century.
He spoke on the evolution and the achievements of the Middle Way Approach as a policy to resolve the long-standing issue of Tibet through dialogue with the Chinese government. He described the Middle Way Approach as the unfailing and viable way forward.
On being asked about the response from the general public to the talk series, he said he received positive response and that he had the opportunity to listen to questions from the public, including school children, about what the Middle Way Approach has achieved since its adoption and the hopes for the resumption of dialogue with the Chinese leadership.
As part of its campaign to raise awareness amongst Tibetans in exile about the Middle Way Approach, the Sikyong, Kalons and secretaries of all the departments of the CTA have been scheduled to visit Tibetan settlements across India to speak on the Middle Way Approach in July and August.
