Yokohama, Japan:
During an interactive discussion with Japanese university students and
educationists in Yokohama on Thursday, His Holiness the Dalai Lama
expressed his appreciation of the Chinese president Hu Jintao’s policy
of harmonious society, which he said must come through trust and
openness. (click here for webcast)His
Holiness said the Chinese leadership must realise the fact that “use of
repression and gun by the Chinese government cannot bring harmony”. “If
the Chinese government is government of its people, then it must
respect the freedom of its people, including the liberty to express
their views freely,” His Holiness added.Responding to a
question on Tibet, His Holiness said the issue of Tibet is judged
differently by the Chinese, Tibetans and international committee of
lawyers. “If we study their versions, it will be clear who is saying
the truth,” he added.Underlining that future is important than
the past, His Holiness said: “The Tibetan people want to live in a
modern Tibet with freedom to practice our culture and religion within
the framework of the Chinese constitution.” –Report filed by Tsewang Gyalpo Arya, Office of Tibet, Japan. Edited by Lobsang Choedak
