DHARAMSHALA: Dhasa Tibetan Women’s Basketball Tournament is being organized on 25th May 2014 at 4 p.m. at Gangkyi Basketball ground. The tournament was initiated by Ms. Tenzin Tseyang of Women’s Empowerment Desk and eight teams from Dharamsala have confirmed their participation in the tournament.  

Ms. Nangsa Choedon la, the secretary of Public Service Commission inaugurated this tournament. The chief aim of this tournament is to advance Tibetan women’s sports and health. The eight teams playing in this tournament are Drogmo (an independent women’s network), Tibetan Career Centre, Ex- TCV, Gu Chu Sum, Tibetan Women’s Football team, Regional Tibetan Women’s Association Dharamsala, Norbulinga and Department of Home.

Through this tournament, Women’s Empowerment Desk of the Department of Home, Central Tibetan Administration endorses for a “Sexual Violence Free” society and all the players will wear purple arm band throughout the matches to signify support to Sexual Violence Free society. The arm bands will also be distributed to the audiences as well. The final match will be graced by the Kalon, Department of Home as the chief guest and a representative from Indian Women’s Organization as the guest of honor.

The final match is scheduled on 2nd June 2014.
