
DHARAMSHALA: A daylong intensive workshop on teacher professional development was held at the Sambhota Tibetan school. Twenty-four Tibetan school teachers including a head master and principal are attending the workshop.The workshop is organised by the Department of Education and funded by Tibet Fund and USAID.
The professional development workshop was conducted by Mr. Kelsang Wangdu, teacher’s professional development and curriculum officer at Tibetan Children Village.
Mr. Kalsang Wangdu talked about the importance of teacher professional development to increase the effectiveness of the teaching. He also talked about how the professional development document came into being and gave his presentation on various topics such as Collaborative Learning, Lesson Study, Professional Growth Plan from the TPD guidelines that have been distributed to the teachers.
“Teachers should not wait for workshops and training to develop their capabilities. They should take the initiative themselves and make their own professional development centres in their school by organising discussions, lessons study etc,” he said.
The “Teacher’s Professional Development Project” which came into being after rigorous discussions during the Education Advisory Council meeting, General Conference on Education and the school heads and principals seek to bring a new change in the education system in the Tibetan schools.
Presently, it is being implemented in 11 Pilot schools. It will be implemented in other Tibetan Schools as well.
