
BANGALORE: The Bharat Tibbat Sahayog Manch’s (Tibet Support Group) chapter in the Southern Indian state of Karnataka organised a meeting on Indo-China Relations and Freedom of Tibet at Mythic society in Bangalore last Saturday.
Dr S.R Nayak, former chairman of Karnataka State Human Right Commission was the chief guest of the occasion. Dr Nayak said that China’s policy of mass Chinese population transfer into Tibet threatens the very existence of Tibetan culture, religion and national identity. He said that with launched of railway line to Lhasa in 2006 the number of Chinese migrants to Tibet has increased rapidly and thus making it demographically difficult for Tibetans to rise up in future.
Dr. Kuldeepchand Agnihotri of Bharat Tibbat Sahyog Manch spoke at length on the relation between India and Tibet and said that considering strategic importance of Tibet and its impact on Indian national security, it is very important for India to support the Tibetans in restoring their lost freedom.
In his address, Mr Karma Singey, the chief representative of CTA, introduced the structure and functions of Central Tibetan Administration and spoke on its twin tasks of rehabilitation of Tibetan refugee in exile and restoration of freedom for Tibet. He also spoke on some key issues of concern like militarization on the Tibetan plateau, impact of railway project, destruction of environment and Chinese population transfer in Tibet.
Mr Amruth Joshi, State convener of BTSM, thanked all the speakers and the audience for making the event a successful one.
In the morning, as a part of the programme, a workshop was held where participants from both Indians and Tibetans discussed on the creation of an action plan for this year and to mobilise people on the issue of Tibet.
