Tokyo: Dr. Dorjee Rabten Neshar, Chairman of the Central Council of Tibetan Medicine (CCTM), once referred to as “Medicine Man” in a documentary film done on Tibetan art of healing is here in Tokyo for a week to promote the understanding of Tibetan medicine in Japan. He is accompanied by Dr. Tsering Tsamchoe, Research Director of the Council in Dharamsala. M/s Opensense, a Japanese establishment has invited and has organised series of talks and discussions with the Japanese medical doctors and general public in Tokyo and neighbouring prefectures.Tibet House Japan organised a talk on 27th February at Gokokuji Temple in Tokyo. Dr. Dorjee Rabten gave talk on “Tibetan Medicine and Healing Approach” to the Japanese and a few western audience. Representative Lhakpa Tshoko welcomed Dr. Dorjee and Dr. Tsamchoe to the event, and thanked M/s Opensense and the audience for their interest in Tibetan medical science. Dr. Dorjee Rabten began the talk with salutation to the medicine Buddha. He said that the Tibetan medical system is a holistic approach based on science, spiritualism and ones life style. “Meditation and prayer recitation forms essential part of the medical system. Buddha taught Four Nobel Truth to save the beings from the vicious circle of samsara. In order to know the Tibetan medical system, it is important to understand the basic concept of this Four Nobel Truth – understanding the suffering, its cause and remedy.”He spoke on the diseases and its remedies, and explained the importance of maintaining harmony with the environment to stay healthy. “When the five elements of Earth or our environment gets polluted, we are visited by hordes of diseases. All matters and beings in this planet are composed of five elements – earth, water, fire, air and space. Elemental balance and harmony is essential to have a perfect health for all,” he said.The talk was received well by the audience; it was followed by question and answer hour. Dr. Dorjee Rabten and Dr. Tsamchoe will be in Japan for a week, during which they will meet and discuss with Japanese doctors and general public about Tibetan medical system and its essential characters.
