TAIPEI: Taiwanese students and students from mainland China attended a talk on Tibet organised by the Social Science Department of the Tunghai University in Central Taiwan on Monday (18 November).
Mr Sonam Dorje, the secretary at the Office of Tibet based in Taipei, delivered the talk. He spoke about Tibet’s unique culture and tradition, and socio-economic and political situation in Tibet. He spoke on the division of Tibet into different administrative units under the Chinese rule, and the repressive measures pushing Tibetans to resort to drastic forms of political protests, including self-immolations.
He explained about the efforts made by the Central Tibetan Administration in Dharamsala to seek genuine autonomy for Tibet within the framework of the Chinese constitution.
