
DHARAMSHALA: Mr Tashi Wangdu today took the oath of office as the new local Justice Commissioner for southern region from Chief Justice Commissioner Ngawang Phelgyal Gyechen at the Tibetan Supreme Justice Commission.
Acharya Tashi Wangdu is an alumnus of Central University of Tibetan Studies based in Varanasi. He is a former secretary of the Tibetan local Justice Commission for northern region, based in Dickyling settlement in Uttarakhand.
In his address, Chief Justice Commissioner Ngawang Phelgyal Gyechen spoke about the huge responsibility of the local justice commissioner for southern region as it has the highest concentration of Tibetans in exile. He urged him to work hard and serve the community impartially.
The Tibetan Local Justice Commission for southern region was established on 1st May 2002 at the Tibetan Settlement in Bylakuppa, Karnataka. It has territorial jurisdiction over five Tibetan settlements and Tibetans living in six cluster sites in Karnataka, Pondicherry, Maharashtra, Goa and Tamil Nadu.
