DHARAMSHALA: Sikyong Dr. Lobsang Sangay paid a visit to the Department of Health, CTA, yesterday.

Health Kalon Dr. Tsering Wangchuk and Secretary Sonam Choephel Shosur briefed Sikyong about the priorities and ongoing programmes of the department. Additional secretary Tsegyal Dranyi spoke about the functioning of the health centers and Tibetan medicare system. The respective section officers spoke in detail about the various programmes like water and sanitation projects, Tibetan torture and survivor’s programme, health information system along with other health promotion programmes like TB, Mother and child, Health education and Training, HIV and Substance abuse and Disability support. The staff also interacted with Sikyong about their experiences and challenges faced during implemention of various health projects.

In his speech during the meeting, Sikyong expressed that good health and wellbeing is vital for the successful functioning and existence of a community. Hence, he emphasised that the Department of Health has an important responsibility in this regard. He further appreciated the department’s work in improving the health status of Tibetan community.

After the meeting, Sikyong assessed the working situation and also personally met with each staff of the department. His visit has proved very fruitful and motivated the entire staff of the department of health to continue their work with dedication and hardwork.
