Tibet Support Group Hosts “Tibet Awareness Day” at Indian School

The Himalayan Parivaar, a Tibet Support Group in India, organised a Tibet awareness programme at Saraswathi Vidya Mandir High school in Chintpurni, located 68 km from Dharamsala.

Dharamshala: Nearly 200 students and staff of the school took part in the day-long event comprising of essay and poem competition, photo exhibition and film screening among others on Saturday.
Acharya Karma Monlam, an official from the department of Education of the Central Tibetan Administration, was a special official invitee and spoke on Tibet and its environment.
He greatly emphasised the environmental significance of Tibet to the rest of the world. “Any changes in terms of environment in Tibet will have direct repercussions in the rest of the Himalayan regions”, the speaker said adding that Tibet’s environment is significant due to its “strategic location in Asia”. The speaker appreciated the Himalayan Parivaar for the Tibet awareness program saying such awareness is “important to the students”. He also expressed warm appreciation to the students who took part in the poem and essay competition about Tibet and its environment.
Mr. Praveen Kumar, a local MLA of the region, was the chief guest of the awareness program and he greatly voiced and expressed his concerns about the environmental destruction taking place in Tibet.
Department of Information and International Relation screened the Hindi version of ‘Tibet’s stolen child’ a film about His Serenity the 11th Panchen Lama Gedun Choekyi Nyima at the event which attracted large audiences.
Gu-Chu-Sum Movement of Tibet, a Dharamshala-based NGO for Tibet’s ex-political prisoners, conducted a photo exhibition about Tibet on the sidelines of the awareness program.
A group of students performed a folk dance at the end of the awareness programme. The local media covered the day-long event in depth.
