DHARAMSHALA: The Tibetan athletic team competing in the ongoing 12th national games in China’s Shenyang city has won one more gold medal.
Shilok Dolma, who is 26, won gold in 63 kg catergory wrestling competition on 8 September. She became the first-ever athlete from the Tibet Autonomous Region to achieve this feat, Tibet Times reported.
Born in a small village in Nyingtri region, Shilok Dolma started learning wrestling around the age of 15. She joined the athletic team of TAR in 2005 and went to Beijing for study and training. She was selected for the national wrestling competition in 2010 and took part in women’s 67-kg category world wrestling competition in Turkey in 2011. She also came first in the Asian games held in India this April.
Tsomo Kyi, a 21-year-old girl from Dashi region in Tsojang Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in northeastern Tibet, also won a gold medal in the final 10,000m marathon competition on 9 September. She timed 31 minutes and 55 seconds, which is best in the history of Qinghai provincial athletic meet in 20 years.
