DHARAMSHALA: The Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile has congratulated Mr Tony Abbott for his winning Australia’s general election.
“On behalf of all the Tibetan people, the Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile wishes to congratulate you for the emphatic victory in the recent election. We wish you all the success in your endeavours,” Speaker Penpa Tsering wrote in a congratulatory message to Prime Minister Tony Abbott on 9 September.
“As you are well informed about the situation in Tibet, we seek your continued support in peacefully resolving the ongoing crisis in Tibet and a lasting solution to the long standing issue of Tibet,” the letter noted.
The coalition led by Liberal leader Tony Abbott defeated outgoing PM Kevin Rudd’s Labour party in a landslide general election held last Saturday. The Liberal-National coalition won 88 seats to Labor’s 57 in the 150-seat parliament.
