Bangalore: The root causes of all different kinds of diseases are negative afflictions such as attachment, anger and ignorance which imbalances the body system, Dr Dorjee Rabten Neshar said in his talk on Tibetan medicine yesterday in Bangalore.Dr Dorjee Rabten Neshar, senior consulting physician based in Bangalore, who is also the Chairman of Central Council of Tibetan Medicine, delivered a talk on the unique features of Tibetan Medicine and its contribution to the holistic health and harmony of modern society.Yuthok Yonten Gonpo, the father of Tibetan Medicine, synthesised and condensed the essence of medical traditions of India, China, Persia and Greece into a single tradition, said Dr Rabten.Attributing improper diet and lifestyle to all kinds of health problems, the first form of treatment in Tibetan medicine is thus not medicines but changing a patient’s diet and lifestyle. Only if this fails to remedy an ailment is the use of medicines considered, Dr Rabten said.Dr Rabten spoke on techniques including testing urine samples and pulse reading.He underlined the need to carry out scientific research on the Tibetan medicine’s clinical efficacy to cure diseases so that the tradition gets global recognition.His Holiness the Dalai Lama established the Tibetan Medical and Astro Institute at Dharamsala in 1961 to contribute the unique Tibetan medicine for the welfare of the human society. Today, there are 56 branch clinics across India and Nepal.
