Himalayan Tibetan Traditional Monasteries to hold Conference on Environment Protection21 November 2009, 4:43 p.m.

Tibetan Traditional monasteries from India, Nepal and Bhutan will hold
a two-day ‘First conference on Environment Protection’ in Gurgaon ,
Haryana from 23 to 24 November arranged by the Department of Religion
and Culture, Central Tibetan Administration. This conference is first
of its kind to have ever held.His Holiness the Dalai Lama will be the chief guest on the occasion.Sri
Sunder Lal Bahuguna, 82 year old, a noted environmentalist, will be the
honourable guest on the conference. Sri Sunder Lal Bahuguna is a Chipko Movement leader and follower of Mahatma Gandhi ‘s philosophy of Non-violence and Satyagraha.Kalon
Tripa, Prof. Samdhong Rinpoche, Kalon Tsering Phuntsok, Kalon for
Religion and Culture Department of the Central Tibetan Administration
will also attend the conference. His Holiness the Dalai Lama,
Kalon Tripa Prof. Samdhaong Rinpoche and Sri Sunder Lal Bahuguna will
address the conference on the opening day. About 85 monk representatives, Lamas and Tulkus (reincarnated lamas)
from Himalayan Tibetan traditional monasteries in Nepal, India and
Bhutan will participate in this conference, besides His Eminence the
33rd Menri Trizin Lungtok Tenpai Nyima will also bless the conference.Environment desk of Department of Information and International Relations will screen film on environment on Monday.
