DHARAMSHALA: As a gesture of solidarity with the Tibetan people, an Indian rock band based in New Delhi has dedicated a music video titled “Freedom”, to the Tibetans for sacrificing their lives for freedom through self-immolation.
In an interview with Tibet TV, Arjun, the front man of the band, said: “The inspiration for the song came after reading about self-immolation protests by Tibetans inside Tibet and the atrocities committed by the Chinese government on the Tibetans.”
He said he wanted to convey a message to the world, through this music video, about what actually is happening inside Tibet, so that the Tibet issue gains more support and respect.
“This music video is a gift to His Holiness the Dalai Lama,” he said, adding, “freedom is everybody’s birthright and we believe that Tibet would be free one day.”
“I strongly believe that music is a powerful medium to bring positive change in the world,” he said.
“We are planning to organise music concerts in Dharamsala to highlight the issue of Tibet,” he said.
The music video was released last month and was recorded by Chill Om Records.
Over 120 Tibetans have set themselves on fire to protest against the Chinese government’s repressive policies in Tibet. The self-immolators have called for the return of His Holiness the Dalai Lama to his homeland and freedom for Tibetans.
