Dharamshala:
Starting Tuesday, a five-day seminar, in commemoration of Tibetans’ 50
years in exile, is being held at College for Higher Tibetan Studies
(CTHS), Sarah, in which about 20 scholars take part to share their
expertise and interact on varied topics, viz history, Buddhism,
grammar, composition etc, in a bid to enrich and strengthen Tibetan
literature.Ven. Jamphel
Dakpa, the Principal, CTHS, in his introductory speech, said that this
scholars’ meet aims to commemorate the Tibetans’ 50 years in exile and
to preserve and promote the rich culture and language studies thus
achieving an enriched learning experience.Commenting on the
education status of exile Tibetans, the chief-guest Ven. Yuthok Karma
Gelek, the Secretary of DOE, referred to the ‘ Basic education policy’
as a “means to address and overcome the flaws”.“The students
should strive to develop an attitude for ‘critical-examination’ and
research-oriented skills in the learning process”, the speaker
emphasized. He further said, the greater importance should be
attached to the learning process at the grassroot level and equally
stressed the need for specialized education in the society. The
College for Higher Tibetan Studies (CHTS) is a branch college under the
institute of buddhist dialectics at Dharamsala. The late Ven Rev
Lobsang Gyatso voluntarily established the institution in 1991 under
the guidance and monetary aid from H.H The Dalai Lama. The department
of education approved and recognised CTHS as a standard college for
imparting Tibetan studies.
