DHARAMSHALA: Health Kalon Dr Tsering Wangchuk inaugurated a five-day workshop on public health organised by the health department in Dharamsala from 15 -19 July.
Around 18 nurses from Tibetan schools across India and Nepal are attending the workshop. The workshop is being conducted by a team of medical professionals from the National Yang Ming University in Taiwan, which is well-known for its expertise in social health.
Describing education as the priority of the 14th Kashag, Health Kalon Dr Tsering Wangchuk said: “We have organised this special workshop to educate the school nurses to fulfil the healthcare needs of our students. Students can do their best in studies only if they have healthy body and mind.”
The health kalon called for the need of concerted effort by parents, teachers, the health department and health committee in the schools to facilitate our students to make an all-round development of their health.
“Public health can be described as the health of a society in general, in other words, the overall physical and mental health of an individual in a society. A healthy society can be achieved through creating awareness about personal hygiene, healthy dietary habits and prevention of various diseases,” he said.
He spoke about the importance of public health for the over all well-being of a community. “Public health is a relatively new concept in India but is rapidly growing in importance due to the substantive role it plays in promoting societal growth,” he said.
