
New York: Kalon Choekyong Wangchuk of Department of Health, CTA visited New York as a part of US official tour. Kalon was accorded a warm reception by representatives of various Tibetan organisations, including the President of the Tibetan Community of New York and New Jersey on his arrival at the airport.
Kalon met with the members of the Tibetan Nurses Association of NY/NJ in the evening. He had discussions with the members about its functions and activities. He later visited the Tibet Fund for a meeting with the members.
He addressed the president and representatives of various Tibetan organizations and informed them about the functioning of the Department of Health and its various projects. There were meaningful discussions and questions put forward by the audience regarding Tibetan Medicine, increasing number of Tibetan youths exposed to substance abuse in India and abroad, development of Tibetan Medicine in abroad and others. Kalon answered and gave clarifications where needed. The discussion and address by Health Kalon was broadcasted Live.
At the meeting, Tenzin Wangyal who donated US $90,000 to the Department of Health, CTA for medical services to the destitute Tibetans was acknowledged. Kalon thanked him on behalf of the Department for donating all his hard-earned money towards the Department of Health and said Mr Wangyal remains a quintessential example to look up to.
Later Health Kalon left for Washington to conduct the second leg of his US official visit.
