
DHARAMSHALA: The executive members of the newly-formed Tibetan Legal Association held a press conference yesterday to announce association’s aims and objectives.
The association, which will function as a non-governmental organisation, was formed during the three-day conference of Tibetan lawyers and law students organised by the Tibetan Supreme Justice Commission in Dharamsala from 28-30 June. Its five executive members are President Deechen Gyalmo Gyari, a Delhi based lawyer, General Secretary Tsering Ngudup, a Kalimpong based lawyer, Public Relations Officers, Mr Lobsang Dakpa, who is pursuing his LL.M. From Christ University, Bangalore and Ms Tenzing Choesang, a Delhi based lawyer and Treasurer, Mr Tenzin Namgyal, a Dharamsala based lawyer. The office of the association will be located in Dharamsala.
The association said its primary aim is to provide, represent, promote and safeguard the legal interests of the Tibetan community in exile and provide free legal aid to the underprivileged Tibetans.
It will work towards effectively presenting a case for the legal status of Tibet and espouse the cause of Tibet based in statues and regulations.
It will provide workshops to the members of the association, school students, monastic institutions, NGOs, general public and staff of the Central Tibetan Administration to raise their awareness about law.
