
DHARAMSHALA: Speaker Penpa Tsering of the Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile today inaugurated a comprehensive leadership workshop for Tibetan college students at Gangkyi, Dharamshala. The 9-day workshop entitled ‘Today’s Youth, Tomorrow’s Leaders’ is being organised by the Tibetan Parliamentary and Policy Research Centre (TPPRC) from 21–29 May.
In his inauguration speech, the speaker spoke about the exile Tibetan polity, Tibet’s history and about the policies of the Central Tibetan Administration especially with regard to the significance of the Middle Way Approach.
Sikyong Dr Lobsang Sangay is also expected to address the students during the course of the workshop.
The 9-Day workshop also include a host of other notable speakers like Khenpo Sonam Tenphel, Deputy Speaker of Tibetan Parliament, Mr Jampal Chosang, Chief Election Commissioner, Rigzin Choephel, Additional Secretary of Audit and Tibetan Parliamentarians Karma Chopel, Bawa Kelsang Gyaltsen, Sonam Gyaltsen, Ven Atuk Tseten, Lobsang Yeshi, Ghang Lhamo as well as officials from the Central Tibetan Administration, Mentseekhang and Library of Tibetan Works and Archives.
The students will be initiated about the structure of the Central Tibetan Administration vis-a-vis the Kashag (Cabinet), Chithue (legislature) and Trimship (Judiciary) by the respective officials. The students will also be given in-depth talks on Tibetan medicine and literature among others during the workshop.
Over 58 college students from cities like Delhi, Mysore, Chennai, Chandigarh and Varanasi are attending the workshop.
The TPPRC is a joint project of the Friedrich-Naumann Foundation, a public funded German institution and the Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile. Since its inception in 1992, it has been engaged in understanding and dissemination of information on various political aspects related to Tibet with a view to carry forward the global movement of the Tibetan people’s struggle for freedom and democracy.
