
DHARAMSHALA: Kalon Dolma Gyari of Department of Home, Central Tibetan Administration, today inaugurated Tibet Charity’s Basic Education School for unemployed Tibetan youths at the Tibet Charity office in Mc Leod Ganj, Dharamsala.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Kalon Dolma Gyari thanked all the volunteers for their support and highlighted the importance of basic education in our day-to-day lives.
This program is being initiated by Tibet Charity and Youth Empowerment Support (YES) under the department of Home with the sanction of the 14th Kashag. This is with due importance given to basic education for individual development in particular and the bigger issue of our Tibetan cause in general, she said.
She also said that the success of this program would depend on the efforts put in by the students and urged them to continue dedicating their time and concentration towards the goal.
Secretary of Home Department Khorlatsang Sonam Topgyal, Additional Secretaries Dhondup Dorje and Chhimey Rigzin, Executive Director of TCV Tsewang Yeshi, and Tibetan Parliamentarian Bawa Kelsang Gyaltsen attended the function among others.
The basic education school is jointly managed by the Department of Home and Tibet Charity, an NGO based in Dharamshala.
The Open Basic Education (OBE) offered by the school is a program under the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS), an autonomous organization under the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India.
The OBE program is recognized by the Government of India as equivalent to formal school, for purposes of higher education and employment.
The OBE program has three levels:
a. Level A: Equivalent to standard III of the formal school system
b. Level B: Equivalent to standard V of the formal school system
c. Level C: Equivalent to standard VIII of the formal school system
The students are given two hours of class from Monday to Friday with special interactive classes on holidays from time to time. Certificates are provided to the students by NIOS after getting the results from Tibet Charity. These certificates are legally recognised all over India.
